The sanctuary is moving!!!

Jeff & I are very excited about this!

We hope to build a new and better animal building which will include private rooms for the parrots, reptiles and the doves. This building will also have a quarentine room for any new animals that are brought to the sanctuary.

The bird rooms will have large windows so the birds can enjoy the views of the gardens & wild life. All windows will open to allow fresh air to circulate in the rooms. The windows will face south to better utilize the southern exposure.

The torts & turtles will have their separate enclosures inside & out with the appropriate species specific set up. We have plans to build a bigger better pond for the RES and hopefully give a few more a forever home.

This building will always have an office and hospital room.

The new loft will be larger & more efficient. Each group of pigeons will have their own separate outside flight & inside accommodations. The loft will be furnished with water & electric, a feed room & more.

We hope to have the buildings done by this fall and then move the animals in.

Photos of the new buildings & the move will be posted.

Hope you all have a great summer!!!

    Jeff & Robin.

Jeff & I have had to make the difficult decision to no longer accept tortoises or turtles at the sanctuary.

We feel that there are more than enough reptile rescues to handle the need for homes for these wonderful animals.

All of the current tortoise & turtle residents will continue to call the sanctuary home and get the best of care.

Iron Wolf Farm Sanctuary is going to focus on providing a forever home to handicapped & unwanted pigeons & doves.

There are so very many pigeons & doves that need homes but not enough forever homes available to handle them.

Please consider giving a pigeon or dove a place to call home.

As always if you have a tortoise or turtle that you can no longer care for we may be able to help.

Spring is always one of the busiest seasons for us here at the sanctuary and this year is no different.

All of the outdoor enclosures & lofts have to be inspected to make sure they are safe & ready for the animals. We check to see if fences need mending, bushes & trees need trimming, the grass needs to be reseeded and night houses cleaned and repaired.

The sulcatas are always the first to be moved outdoors. And believe me they are always eager to go out.

The Russian torts are moved out next once the night temps. are in the 50’s.

All the night houses are heated when necessary.

Over the winter we accepted 3 new Russian tortoises to the sanctuary. A long time pair named Lizzie & Freddy and a single male named Emerson.

A month after arriving while still in quarantine Lizzie laid 2 eggs but the eggs turned out to be infertile.

Because we didn’t want to separate these two we had to build them a new outdoor enclosure and as soon as the grass seed starts growing they will be moved to it. (see more photos of Lizzie, Freddy & their new enclosure in our gallery)

Since Emerson is a male I am hoping to put him in with Franklin, our other single male RT that lives here. These 2 will be watched closely for any signs of aggression & they will be separated.

Winston, the Yellow foot tort, & Pell, a Cherry head tort, will be moved into their separate enclosures once the night temps. stay in the 50’s.

The Maps & the Red Eared Slider turtles are in their separate ponds. The Res are always begging to be fed or just eager to watch the world go by where as the Map turtles are so very shy and prefer to watch unseen by anyone.

About the Lofts-

The lofts have also had their winter dust & cob webs cleaned out. The winter ground cob we use on the floors has been cleaned out & hauled to our recycle area.

All the pigeons are so happy to see the snow gone & the warm days. So many of the birds that refused to go out during the cold months are now the first to go out to bathe & bask in the sun.

Birdie, a newbie to the sanctuary, is a beautiful handicapped feral blue bar came to live here from Nevada.
After settling in Birdie decided that Greta, a small Modena hen, would make a perfect mate.

Pinkie has settled into the new section of the loft and has chosen Queenie, a handicapped feral cock, as her mate.

Bubba & Pidgie have chosen new mates leaving poor Kong & Beanie bachelors. But not for long because Gabbi picked Beanie as her new mate.

The lofts remind me so much of a soap opera! It can be so confusing! LOL

Solo, an indigo feral, & Sparkle, a Modena, have yet to find a mate to settle with.
Just to let you know what a few of the pigeons are up to.

We hope to resume work on the Serenity Loft this summer.

Last fall we adopted an 18 month old Boston terrier. We were soon very surprised to discover that she was pregnant with 4 puppies.
After finding this out we were asked to accept another Boston into our family. This young pup needs special care and her family knew we would be willing & capable to give her the life, love & care she deserved.

I’m sure you can imagine how very busy we have been this winter.

I’m very happy to say that all the puppies have been placed in loving homes with family members.

The sanctuaries “watch dog”, Lexi, can now take a less active role in protecting the premises since the 2 Boston’s have taken over.
They may be small but they are very protective & can be a mighty force to be reckoned with.

Lexi, a German Shepard, has been with us for 12 years now and has more than earned her retirement.

Don’t forget to check out new photos in our gallery.

And as always donations are always greatly needed & appreciated.

At this time we can no longer accept sulcata tortoises or Red Eared Slider turtles.

If you have any questions about our sanctuary or need help in placing an animal you can contact us at ironwolffarmsanctuary@yahoo.com.

Thanks & have a great day.
